Why do you need flood insurance?

1) Because your home or business insurance doesn't cover floods*.

2) If you're in certain "flood zones", you can't get a mortgage without flood insurance.

In most towns in New Jersey, you can buy the Federal flood insurance provided by the NFIP, under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  The NFIP program is limited in how much coverage is available for each building ($250,000 for a house and $500,00 for a business) and its contents.  For the list of New Jersey towns that participate in the NFIP click here for the FEMA list.

What if the NFIP program maximum isn't enough?

In some cases you may be able to qualify for, and should buy, excess flood insurance from the private insurance market.  You really should talk with us about that coverage; it can be expensive, but losing your home or business would be much worse.  Call us at

*Floods are temporary water or mud flow over areas that are normally dry.  And the cause of water damage makes a huge difference in how much insurance coverage you have in the home or business policy.
